Our Conservation Efforts

Making a positive impact on our environment

Conservation at Ban's Diving Resort

Committed to Sustainability

At Ban's Diving Resort, we are deeply committed to protecting the natural environment that makes Koh Tao such a special place. We believe that as divers and residents of this beautiful island, we have a responsibility to preserve and protect the marine and land ecosystems for future generations.

We are proud to have created an in-house conservation center that is used to host resort guests, school children, and university groups. We practice what we preach by using renewable energies, creating biofuels, using eco-friendly detergents in our rooms, recycling waste, and growing and serving fruits and vegetables in our restaurants from our chemical-free gardens.

Our conservation efforts are divided into two main areas: Marine Conservation and Land Conservation. Through these initiatives, we aim to make a positive impact on our environment and inspire others to join us in our mission.

Marine Conservation

Protecting the underwater world

Marine Conservation

Coral Reef Restoration

Our coral reef restoration program focuses on growing and transplanting corals to help rebuild damaged reef areas around Koh Tao. We maintain several coral nurseries where we grow different species of corals that are later transplanted to restoration sites.

Through our PADI Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course, we educate divers about the importance of coral reefs and involve them in our conservation efforts. Participants learn about coral reef ecology, threats to coral reefs, and how they can contribute to conservation efforts.

Marine Debris Removal

Marine Debris Removal

We regularly organize underwater and beach clean-ups to remove marine debris that threatens marine life. Our dive teams collect trash during their dives, and we encourage all divers to participate in our "Dive Against Debris" program.

The collected debris is properly sorted, recorded, and disposed of or recycled when possible. The data we collect is shared with international organizations to help track marine pollution trends and develop effective solutions.

Marine Education

Marine Education

Education is a key component of our conservation strategy. We offer various educational programs and workshops for divers, local communities, and schools to raise awareness about marine conservation issues and promote sustainable practices.

Our conservation center features interactive displays, educational materials, and regular presentations on marine ecology and conservation. We believe that by fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the marine environment, we can inspire more people to take action to protect it.

Land Conservation

Protecting the island ecosystem

Sustainable Practices

Sustainable Resort Practices

At Ban's Diving Resort, we implement various sustainable practices to minimize our environmental footprint. These include:

  • Using renewable energy sources where possible
  • Implementing water conservation measures
  • Using eco-friendly cleaning products
  • Reducing single-use plastics
  • Proper waste management and recycling

We continuously seek ways to improve our sustainability practices and reduce our impact on the environment.

Organic Garden

Organic Garden

Our chemical-free organic garden produces fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs that are used in our restaurant. By growing our own produce, we reduce our carbon footprint associated with food transportation and support sustainable agriculture practices.

The garden also serves as an educational tool, demonstrating how sustainable farming practices can be implemented even in limited spaces. Guests are welcome to visit the garden and learn about our organic farming methods.

Community Engagement

Community Engagement

We actively engage with the local community to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices. Our initiatives include:

  • Environmental education programs for local schools
  • Community clean-up events
  • Workshops on sustainable living practices
  • Supporting local conservation projects

By working together with the local community, we can create a more sustainable future for Koh Tao and its residents.
